Rosetta Stone

Inscribed in 196 BCE, it portrays the same decree written out in three separate scripts. The first two scripts are Egyptian hieroglyphic and demotic respectively, and the third is ancient Greek. The stone enabled our first understanding of the meaning of Egyptian writings.
