If a cryptid is going to be named for a certain location, then it should at least have the decency to be found there! The eponymous Fresno, to my great disappointment, contained not a single Fresno Nightcrawler. Fortunately for me, I ran down a few other leads and had much better luck in the little town of Clovis. Odd creatures, unlike anything I’ve ever encountered (which, I suppose, is a redundant thing to say). They showed absolutely no fear of me, nor indeed did they even seem aware I existed. I was able to get quite close to them while making my sketch. In fact, their presence seems to be an open secret in town. It’s something everyone knows but no one talks about. How these strange, simian creatures aren’t public knowledge is beyond me. But if there are still mysterious corners left in the world then I will be the last to complain.
