Not what I was expecting. That’s the most succinct way I can describe the Bunyip. By all accounts this was a creature revered as a god by aboriginal tribes, a creature of great power, and strength, and… and all I can say is that she (I believe I saw Bunyip pups, nearby, as well) is more akin to a seal than anything I had previously envisioned. The elements are there, although her incisors kept me from straying too close, even for my sketches. I was followed from Gundaroo and spent a day in Canberra crossing back alleys and passing through buildings until I was satisfied I had lost them. My greatest fear is leading the wrong people to these magnificent creatures. But while before I was suspicious, I am now convinced: I’m not alone on this journey.
